BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Rising senior Paul Dunne of the UAB men’s golf team finished in second place at the 2014 East of Ireland Amateur Championship on Monday at the County Louth Golf Club in Baltray, Ireland.
Dunne was looking to claim his second consecutive East of Ireland title, but came up two strokes short. Colm Campbell recorded a 282 (-6) to take home individual medalist honors.
The Greystones, Ireland native opened the four-round tournament with a 68 (-4) for the first 18 holes of play. After an even par second round, Dunne shared the lead with Campbell. Dunne finished the third round in 76 strokes (+4), but rebounded with a four-under final round.
Sam Love, a senior on the 2013-14 UAB men’s golf team, fell just short of a trip to the 2014 U.S. Open. Love tied for 12th place at sectional qualifying at the Colonial Country Club in Memphis, Tenn. on Monday.
Love recorded a 137 (-6) for the two-round event and entered a playoff with four other golfers for the final two spots. The Trussville, Ala. native and 2010 NCAA individual champion Scott Langley are the two alternates out of sectional qualifying in Memphis.
