BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Four members of the UAB men’s golf team have received postseason honors from Conference USA, the conference announced on Tuesday. With four members earning accolades, it matched the program record set in 1996-97.
Junior Paul Dunne became the fourth Blazer in program history to earn Conference USA Golfer of the Year honors. Dunne joined senior Wilson McDonald on the All-Conference USA First Team. Senior Sam Love and sophomore Martin Rohwer were recognized on the All-C-USA Second Team.
Dunne led the squad in stroke average (71.6), rounds at or under par (18), wins (2), and top-five finishes (4). The Greystones, Ireland native finished in the top 10 of four of the past five events and earned Conference USA Golfer of the Week three times this season. In addition, Dunne became the third player in program history to be invited to the Palmer Cup, joining Andrew Laurence and Graeme McDowell.
McDonald ranked second on the squad with a 71.7 stroke average in 2013-14. The Mobile, Ala. native led the team in tournaments at or under par (5) and tied with Dunne for the team-lead in top-10 finishes (5). McDonald finished in the top 10 of every event the Blazers participated in the fall and won the 2013 Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate.
Love owned a 72.3 stroke average on the season, which ranked fourth on the team. The Trussville, Ala. native recorded four top-10 finishes, including a runner-up performance at the 2014 John Hayt Collegiate Invitational and third-place finish at the 2013 Topy Cup. Love was one of three Blazers, joing Dunne and McDonald, to earn Conference USA Golfer of the Week honors on the year.
Rohwer was third on the UAB men’s golf team in stroke average, finishing in an average of 72.1 strokes.
