BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB men's golf team earned an at-large berth to the 2013 NCAA Men's Golf National Championship, the NCAA announced Monday night.

The Blazers were awarded the No. 10 seed in the LSU Regional, which will take place May 16-18 at the University Club in Baton Rouge, La. Other teams competing alongside UAB in the regional include No. 2 ranked Alabama, No. 10 Florida, No. 17 LSU, No. 23 Mississippi State and Conference USA Tournament Champion Houston, among other schools.

"You have to go somewhere and I couldn't think of a better place to go," UAB head coach Alan Kaufman said. "I went to school at LSU and we have played the course before so we know what to expect. It’s a very difficult course and there are a lot of very good teams in this regional.”

The Blazers, who are ranked No. 62 in the nation in's latest rankings, will be making their second NCAA Regional appearance in as many years. It will be UAB’s ninth appearance in an NCAA Regional in school history and the eighth under Kaufman.

“We’ve played against several of the teams in our regional this season and we know we can compete with any of them,” added Kaufman.

UAB is coming off a fourth-place finish at the 2013 Conference USA Championship, which took place April 21-23 in Texarkana, Ark. It marked the second consecutive tournament that the Blazers posted a top-five finish, having finished runner-up at the Old Waverly Collegiate Championship earlier in the month.

In total, there are 81 teams placed among the six regionals, with the top five advancing from each to the finals at the Capital City Club Crabapple Course in Atlanta, Ga. That tournament will take place from May 28-June 2.

UAB finished third in the 2012 NCAA Stanford Regional and advanced to the NCAA Nationals at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
