Men's Golf Opens Spring Season at Gator Invitational

Dunne led the Blazers with a 74.9 average last fall.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB men's golf team will begin its spring schedule Feb. 9-10 at the SunTrust Gator Invitational played at the Mark Bostick Golf Course on the campus of the University of Florida in Gainesville, Fla.

The 14-team field includes Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, Georgia Southern, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lamar, Liberty, Memphis, Mississippi State, North Florida, South Alabama, UAB, and UCF.

Five teams in the field were ranked or receiving votes in the final coaches' poll of the fall season: No. 4 Florida, No. 12 Arkansas, No. 21 Liberty, No. 23 Florida State and Georgia Southern (RV). In addition, eight of the 14 teams in the field qualified for last year's NCAA Championships.

The Gator Invitational has been a staple on the UAB schedule as this marks the 13th stright year that the Blazers will begin their spring season at this tournament.

In the lineup for the Blazers will be Paul Dunne, Sam Love, Thomas Sutton, Martin Rohwer, and Wilson McDonald.

Dunne, a sophomore, led the Blazers to a tie for 10th place in their final tournament of the fall, the Warrior Wave Intercollegiate, by carding a final round 65 (-7) to finish tied for fifth overall with a three round total of 211 (-5).

Participants will play 54 holes over two days, 36 holes on Saturday and 18 holes on Sunday, at the par-70 course totaling 6,701 yards.
