BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB men's golf team was ranked eighth in latest Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index
rankings released Jan. 31. The Blazers dropped one spot from their seventh place ranking in December. The rankings are based on a combined team scoring average.
Three Blazers made the top 75. Sophomore Graeme McDowell moved up one spot from the December rankings to no. 16. A native of Portrush, Northern Ireland, McDowell was the Blazers' top performer during the fall season. He played in all five tournaments and led the team with his 71.2 stroke average, two strokes lower than his 1999-2000 season scoring average. At the Pacific Invitational, Inverness Intercollegiate, and the VCU Fall Preview, McDowell tied for third. He shot eight rounds of par or better out of the 14 rounds played during the fall season.
Sophomore Daniel Ozley came in at no. 71 in the rankings. During the fall, he played in all five events with his best finish coming at the Inverness Intercollegiate where he placed ninth. A native of Birmingham, Ala., Ozley finished the season with a 72. 7 scoring average.
Junior Payton Osborn rounded off the rankings at no. 75. The Mountain Brook, Ala. native played in all five events and ended the season with a 72.9 scoring average.
The Blazers get their spring season under way in Gainesville, Fla. at the Gator Invitational, Feb. 9-11.
