BEALLSVILLE, Md. – The UAB men’s golf team is in first place after the first two rounds of the Georgetown Intercollegiate. UAB recorded a 560 (-8) for the first two rounds of competition on Monday at The Members Club at Four Streams.

“They played really well today,” head coach Alan Murray stated. “We only had one double bogey between the five of them over 36 holes. To keep big numbers off the card is really good. The greens have been tricky, so it has been a real test.”

The Blazers hold a 26-stroke advantage heading into tomorrow’s final round at the Georgetown Intercollegiate. In addition, all five members of the UAB lineup are in the top 10 of the individual leaderboard.

On top of the individual leaderboard is junior Paul Dunne. Dunne recorded a 138 (-4) for the first two rounds and owns a one-stroke advantage heading into the third and final round.

One stroke behind Dunne is redshirt senior Thomas Sutton. Sutton is three strokes under par for the event and is looking for his second top-10 finish of the 2013-14 season.

Sophomore Martin Rohwer is currently tied for fourth place with two other golfers. Rohwer shot a 141 (-1) for the first two rounds. Like Sutton, Rohwer is seeking his second top-10 finish of the year.

Senior Sam Love is even par after the first day. Love is in seventh place and is looking to finish in the top 20 of every event the Blazers have participated in this fall.

Wrapping up the lineup on Monday was senior Wilson McDonald. The 2013 Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate individual medalist fired a 143 (+1) and is in 10th place heading into tomorrow’s final round. McDonald has placed in the top 10 in every tournament this season.

“We are in good position going into the final round,” added Murray. “We have been doing what we have been doing this whole semester and it is working out really well for us.”

UAB will conclude its fall season tomorrow with the third and final round of the Georgetown Intercollegiate. Tee times are set for tomorrow morning at The Members Club at Four Streams.
