EUGENE, Ore. ----- Hunter Hawkins and Wilson McDonald led the UAB men’s golf team to a sixth place finish in the Duck Invitational with scores of two-over par 218. The duo finished in a tie for 14th place.
After an opening round 75, Hawkins played the final two rounds at one-under par including an even par round of 72 this morning to finish in a tie for 14th place in the event.
McDonald carded his second two-over par round of the tournament to also finish at two-over par for the tournament. His second round score of two-under par 70 was the lowest of the weekend for the Blazers.
Paul Dunne concluded the event with back-to-back rounds of one-over par 73 to finish with a score of 220 and in a tie for 20th. Sam Love and Thomas Sutton rounded out the scoring for the Blazers with scores of 223 and 224, respectively.
As a team, UAB finished with a total of 876. The host of the tournament, the University of Oregon, finished atop the team standings with a three-round total of 858. SMU and Washington rounded out the top three with scores of 861 and 872, respectively.
Oregon’s Jonathan Woo took home medalist honors with a three-round total of eight-under par 208. Wichita State’s Louis Cohen Boyer and San Jose State’s Cody Blink tied for second place at six-under par for the tournament.
The men’s golf team will continue its season at the Old Waverly Collegiate Championship in West Point, Miss. on April 8-9. This will be the last tournament for the golf team before the Conference USA Championship on April 22-24.
