PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – The No. 13 UAB men’s golf team finished in third place at the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational on Tuesday at the Sawgrass Country Club. UAB recorded an 859 (-5) for the three-round event at the par-72, 6,966-yard course.
For the fifth time in the 2013-14 season, the UAB men’s golf team finished in the top three on the team leaderboard. UAB finished 14 strokes behind John Hayt Collegiate Invitational team champion Oklahoma State and four back of runners-up UCF.
Senior Sam Love finished as the individual runner-up after recording an eight-under par for the tournament. Love held the lead for the first two rounds, but could not fight off a surging UCF senior Greg Eason, who took home the title with a 205 (-11).
Classmate Thomas Sutton registered his third top-10 finish of the season, placing eighth. Sutton was two-under par for the event at the Sawgrass Country Club.
Two strokes behind was junior Paul Dunne. The Greystones, Ireland native finished in a tie for 13th place, his third top-20 finish of the year.
Senior Wilson McDonald used a final-round 70 (-2) to finish in 223 strokes (+7). After shooting a seven-over par for the first round, McDonald was even par for the rest to finish in a tie for 37th place.
Sophomore Will Cannon completed the Blazers’ lineup, recording a 227 (+11) for his first event in the UAB lineup in 2013-14.
Redshirt sophomore Ryan Davies, playing as an individual, fired a final-round 69 (-3) to finish nine-over par for the tournament.
The UAB men’s golf team is back in action from Monday, March 3 – Tuesday, March 4 at the Samford Intercollegiate in nearby Hoover, Ala.
