Men's Golf In Seventh Through Two Rounds

Sophomore Martin Rohwer fired an even-par second round and is in 10th place.

The No. 8 UAB men’s golf team is in seventh place after two rounds of play at the SunTrust Gator Invitational on Saturday. The squad registered a 587 (+27) for the first two rounds of the three-round event.

“We had a good second round,” head coach Alan Murray stated. “We played well this morning. We just had a bad finish.”

The squad made a seven-stroke improvement from the opening round, shooting a 290 (+10) for the second round of competition. UAB had the fifth-lowest round of the afternoon, moving them up three spots on the leaderboard.

Sophomore Martin Rohwer led all Blazers with a 143 (+3) on the day and is tied for 10th place. The sophomore made a three-shot improvement, registering an even-par second round. It marked his eighth round at or under par this season.

Senior Wilson McDonald shot back-to-back 73 (+3) and is tied for 21st place heading into the third and final round.

Classmate Sam Love rebounded from an opening-round seven-over par to shoot a 71 (+1) in the afternoon. Love scored a 148 (+8) on the day and is tied for 34th place individually.

Junior Paul Dunne and redshirt senior Thomas Sutton completed the UAB lineup on Saturday. Dunne tallied a 151 (+11), while Sutton was 14-over par through two rounds.

“A little bit disappointed, but tomorrow is a new day,” concluded Murray. “Hopefully, we play well tomorrow. We certainly are capable of it.”

The UAB men’s golf team will compete in the third and final round on Sunday at the Mark Bostick Golf Course on the campus of the University of Florida. Tee times will begin at 8:00 a.m. at the par-70, 6,701-yard course.
