In August of 2005, former UAB football standout Kirk Tuck was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia. Kirk was an All-Conference USA selection and three-year starter on the Blazer's offensive line and graduated from UAB following the 2002 season.

Although Kirk succumbed to his fight with Leukemia in July of 2006, he showed the same fight and determination that he exhibited every day as a football player at UAB.

An account to receive donations in Kirk's honor from friends and colleagues has been set up at AmSouth Bank. If you would like to help Kirk's family and UAB Athletics preserve his memory, you can visit any AmSouth Bank. If you would prefer to send a check, you can mail it to:

Kirk Tuck Fund
UAB Football Office
7-11 Building

Please make checks payable to AmSouth Bank and write Kirk Tuck's name somewhere on the check.

Kirk Tuck Message Board

We would like to thank from the bottom of our hearts all of our family and friends for all of your continued love and support. The uplifting messages have really helped us make it through the difficult times. We feel extremely blessed to have such wonderful people in our lives and to be part of the UAB family. Thank you for everything you have done for us. We love you,

Melissa and Kirk Tuck

I went to high school with Kirk. It's a devistating thing to when someone you know passes away. It is much worse when it's a loved one. My heart goes out to you.

Lisa Lawrence

It seems like yesterday that I was DJing Melissa and Kirk's wedding. I don't recall alot of specifics of nights doing it at Bell but I do remember nights like theirs. I didn't know Kirk as long as I knew Melissa but I could tell he cared deeply for her and I know she adored him. I have the deepest sympathy for Melissa, and Kirks family and friends. May God be with all of you.

Michael Boaz

You will always be remember as my big brother. To those who never knew you, he was an on and off the field leader who led by exemple. My deepest simpathy to his family.

Nigel

To all our family, friends and friends we have never met: Thank you for your tender messages you have sent. We will be eternally grateful for the enormous outpouring of love for our family. We have been strengthed by your faith and prayers. Kirk told us many times that he could feel the prayers and how much he appreciated it. He will be missed but we look forward to the promise of the resurrection. We know we will see him again and will get to have his big bear hugs again. Til we meet again, we will keep him near and dear to our hearts...Wayne & Theresa Tuck, Brian & Meagan Tuck and Grandma and Grandpa Holloman

My son, age 11, was recently diagnosed with ALL. He too is a football player. We also have enormous support from both the local high school and bantam programs, without which we would feel so isolated. Your son must have been an outstanding young man to have so many care for him. I am so sorry for your loss, and can only hope the love our Lord and Savior can comfort you in this time of grief.

Drew Genneken

I was diagnosed with Cronic Myelogenous Leukemia in late 2002 and I continue to fight this disease through the strength that I have received from my friends anfd family throughout the leukemia society. Please take great pride in knowing that Kirk's accomplishments will live on to inspire us all!

Please accept my sincerest condolances on the loss of such a great young athlete. I will say a prayer for his family. God Bless.

Melissa, Mr. and Mrs. Tuck,

Kirk is like no other and we will all truly miss him. I pray for you all and I know that Kirk is in a better place. I will never forget our friendship and playing next to him on the offensive line. God bless you.

Preston Fray

Mel, you and your family are in my prayers every single day. Kirk was special to all of your Dorians, and it was always so sweet of him to come to all of our performances even when it probably wasn't where he always wanted to be. You are such an amazing woman and I truly admire your strength.

With all of my love,

Alexis Petelos

I love you...may you always know that you will always have special place in my heart. I'm thankful that I was able to say Good-bye and hold your hand. Rest now, your suffering is through and your time with Heavenly Father has just begun. Watch over Melissa and be her angel.

Melissa, I admire you and your patience and kindness to Kirk and for your undying love for him. We'll never understand why but we'll have memories of him to comfort us. May God bless you and your family. I love you.

Aunt Cristi

Kirk and Melissa,

Be as strong as you can through this and know that God is there when you need His strength. Your in my prayers.

I do not know you but my sister told me of the article in the paper about you. It was very hard for her to read. She just lost her son May 12, 2006 to leukemia. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. So when you are having a bad day fight a little harder for a boy named Cory Huffstutler, he was only 18.

Thanks,
Stacie Martinez

Our thoughts and prayers are with you. We cannot even imagine what you are going through but keep up the fight and never give up! God Bless. You and Melissa will be in our prayers.

Kirk....you don't know me but i know of you...as a writer for the kaliedescope covering sports, i have had the privelege of being around many of our university's wonderful athletes...the hard work and detirmination you learned as an athlete will be the tools you use to overcome this particularly obstacle in your life...I truly believe that our Lord chooses only the strongest of us to be challenged in these situations and I know you will show the same detirmination and skills you used as an offensive lineman to "pancake" your leukemia, not just for your own sake, but for the sake of your family and friends and to inspire the rest of us just as you always did on the gridiron...God be with you and your family on this most important journey...best wishes always...your friend and brother forever...Jim Borton
