BIRMINGHAM - Four UAB players received All-Conference USA honors as the league announced its 2000 Football All-Conference teams Tuesday.

Running back Jegil Dugger, offensive tackle Tony Dollison, defensive end Bryan Thomas, and placekicker Rhett Gallego were all named to the All-Conference USA Second Team.

Dugger, a junior from Birmingham (Midfield HS), led the team in rushing with 852 net yards in 2000, 441 of which came against C-USA opponents. He scored five touchdowns this season, three of those came in the fourth quarter and two were game-winners (vs. Chattanooga and Memphis). Dugger led UAB in rushing in eight of 11 games this season.

Dollison, a senior from Starkville, Miss., came to UAB in 1999 from East Mississippi Community College. He was a starter at offensive tackle for two seasons for the Blazers. He graded out at over 85 percent for the 2000 regular season. He did not miss a game in his two seasons with the Blazers, and started 21 of the 22 games.

Thomas, a junior from Birmingham (Minor HS), was one of the top pass-rushers in Conference USA this season with 10 sacks. He finished the regular season with 41 total tackles (19 solo), five pass breakups, 12 quarterback hurries, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and three blocked kicks.

Gallego, a junior from Birmingham (Hueytown HS), had an outstanding season, making 19 of 24 field goal attempts -- including game-winners at LSU (Sep. 23) and East Carolina (Oct. 28). He also made 23 of 24 PAT attempts this season. Gallego was named C-USA Special Teams Player Of The Week three times this season, after the LSU, Louisiana-Lafayette (Sep. 30) and East Carolina games, and was also a Groza Award nominee.
