BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB football team held an afternoon practice on Tuesday in preparation for its season finale against Southern Miss on Saturday, Nov. 30. UAB and Southern Miss will kick off at 12 p.m. CT on Saturday at Legion Field.
Senior linebacker Patrick Bastien and sophomore linebacker/safety Jake Ganus are two key members of the Blazers’ defense. The duo spoke about the significance of the Southern Miss game and the rivalry the two teams share.
“This game is just as important as any other game,” said Bastien. “For the seniors, we have a four-game winning streak going in against Southern Miss. It is really important that we win this game.”
UAB and Southern Miss will be meeting for the 14th time on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Eagles currently hold the all-time series lead by a 9-4 margin, but the Blazers have won the last four meetings.
“I was at the game when Southern Miss was ranked (Nov. 17, 2011),” stated Ganus. “That was a huge game. They were ranked and UAB had not won many games that year. You could just tell that the records did not matter right then. The records do not matter on Saturday.”
The Green and Gold is looking to close the 2013 campaign with its first victory in a season finale since 2008. UAB defeated UCF, 15-0, in its final game of the 2008 season.
