BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB football team practiced for approximately an hour and a half Thursday morning in shorts and helmets at the UAB practice facility.
In three days of practice this week the Blazers have been forced to work out in three different locations due to heavy rains Tuesday. The team practiced indoors at Wallace Gym and on the artificial surface at Legion Field before the weather permitted them to return to the UAB practice fields Thursday to wrap up the week.
Although UAB head coach Neil Callaway did not think this week of practice was quite on par with last week's, which he dubbed the best week of preparation since he's been at UAB, he still thought his team had a good workout Thursday.
"It was a good day," Callaway said. "It was good to get out here, the weather cooperated and the fields were in good shape."
UAB (4-5, 3-2 C-USA) travels to Memphis (2-7, 1-4 C-USA) this weekend to take on the Tigers at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium. The Blazers, who have dropped the last two contests to Memphis, look to regain the "Battle for the Bones" trophy and win their third consecutive game Saturday. Kick off is set for 12 p.m. CT.
Callaway named senior WR Mark Ferrell and senior QB Joe Webb as the offensive captains, sophomore DL Elliot Henigan as the defensive captain and junior LB Darrion Wilson as the special teams captain for Saturday's matchup.
Saturday's game will be televised live by CSS. The game will be carried on the Blazers ISP Sports Network and can be heard in the Birmingham area on flagship station WUHT-FM 107.7 with David Crane (play-by-play) and Jake Arians (color) on the call. The pregame show will begin 90 minutes prior to kickoff.
