The Battle for the Bones BBQ competition will again be held prior to UAB/Memphis football game.
Nov. 7, 2012
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The annual Conference USA football contest between UAB and Memphis was dubbed as the Battle for the Bones game in 2006, and the 100-pound bronzed rack of ribs will again be up for grabs when the teams meet Saturday, Nov. 17 at Legion Field.
Part of the festivities of this college football rivalry is a pregame barbecue cooking contest, in which cooks can try their hand at producing the best-tasting ribs and sauce for a panel of judges to determine whether Birmingham or Memphis serves up the best barbecue fare.
The BBQ competition is open to both professionals and amateurs, and each team is limited to four members. All contestants must be registered by Thursday, Nov. 15. There are three prizes for ribs: first place receives $1,000; second place receives $500; and third place receives $250. The three prize winners in ribs, as well as the overall sauce winner, will receive a unique barbecue-themed trophy.
Spots are limited and all forms/entry fees must be submitted by 5 p.m. CST on Thursday, Nov.15.
There will be no sign-ups on site. Fans from either school who are interested in entering the barbecue cooking competition should download the form HERE and fill it out and mail it with the $100 entry fee ($50 for students) to the address below. The entry fee includes a parking pass for a passenger vehicle and four tickets to the football game.
