BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB football team continued preparing for its upcoming game versus UCF during Wednesday's practice, going two hours in shells and helmets. The Blazers will host the Knights in their final home game of the season Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
UAB head coach Neil Callaway didn't think Wednesday's practice was as good as Tuesday's session. He is looking for his team to bring the energy that he saw on Tuesday to each and every practice.
"Today wasn't a very good day," said Callaway. "I felt like we were just going through the motions. It was disappointing because as much energy and enthusiasm as we had yesterday, we didn't have that today."
Even though the Blazers were not in full pads Wednesday, Callaway still tried to keep things as physical as possible in order to prepare his squad for UCF.
"We did our normal Wednesday deal," said Callaway. "But, we were just kind of one speed today and didn't do what we needed to do. We have to hope we come out and have a better day tomorrow."
Even though the weather is starting to change and the temperature is getting cooler for the Blazers' practices, Callaway feels that should help the team's efforts, not hinder them.
"The cooler weather shouldn't affect us," said Callaway. "I thought it helped yesterday. I think today was just a matter of not being sharp."
Saturday's Conference USA matchup between UAB and UCF will be nationally televised by CSTV at 6:30 p.m. CT.
The game will also serve as Military Appreciation Day at Legion Field. Fans with a valid military ID will receive free admission into the game.
Radio coverage of the game can be heard on the Blazers' ISP Sports Network flagship station WUHT 107.7 FM. The broadcast can also be heard on affiliates WIQR 1410 AM in Montgomery, WTRB 98.3 FM in Talladega and WACT 1420 AM in Tuscaloosa.
