BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Sophomore linebacker Jake Ganus of the UAB football team has been named the UAB Student-Athlete of the Week, as announced on Wednesday. The UAB Student-Athlete of the Week recognizes Blazers who excel on and off their respective fields of competition.
Ganus has been one of the leaders of the UAB defense in 2013. The Chelsea, Ala. native has a team-high 62 total tackles on the year, 41 of those being solo tackles. He also leads the squad in tackles for a loss, accumulating six hits behind the line for a loss of 18 yards. In five of eight games this season Ganus has led or shared the team-lead in tackles.
Off the field, Ganus shines in the classroom, as well. The business major owns a 3.22 overall GPA. Last season, the sophomore linebacker was named to the Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll. The Commissioner’s Honor Roll recognizes Conference USA student-athletes that hold a GPA of 3.0 or better.
Ganus and the UAB football team will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 9 when it travels to Marshall. The game is scheduled to kickoff at 11 a.m. CT in Huntington, W.V.
