BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The UAB football team continued its preparations Thursday for this weekend's Conference USA contest at Southern Miss with a short practice on campus.

Kickoff Saturday is set for 6:37 p.m. CT at Roberts Stadium in Hattiesburg, Miss. The contest will be televised by CSS.

The Blazers (1-7, 0-4 Conference USA) have lost three of their conference games by narrow margins in high-scoring affairs, including last weekend's 55-45 defeat to Tulane in New Orleans.

Head coach Garrick McGee said his team has to improve at adjusting to momentum swings in a game.

"The question is how do we become mentally tough enough to overcome the ups and downs of a 60-minute football game," said McGee.

"That's something you have to train and develop by the way that you practice, by the way that you meet their intensity, by understanding and putting your kids in situations on the practice field where they're going to fail or where they're going to succeed and to understand how they respond to it."

UAB and Southern Miss will be meeting for the 13th time Saturday. The Golden Eagles hold a 9-3 lead in the series, but the Blazers have won the past three meetings, including last year's 34-31 win at Legion Field and a 50-49 overtime thriller at Hattiesburg two years ago.

The contest will also air locally on the Blazer IMG Sports Network on WUHT-FM 107.7. The voice of the Blazers, David Crane, will call the game action with Steve Irvine providing analysis and Sam Miller reporting from the sidelines.
