BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The UAB football team practiced for roughly two hours on Wednesday afternoon, continuing to implement the Blazers’ game plan against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles.  The contest is set for 6:30 p.m. CT on Saturday at Roberts Stadium in Hattiesburg, Miss.

Southern Miss (0-8, 0-4 C-USA) holds the upper hand in the all-time series with the Blazers, leading 9-3 in 12 previous meetings.  However, UAB (1-7, 0-4 C-USA) has captured the last three gridiron matchups with the Golden Eagles.

The last time the two teams squared off in Hattiesburg, the Blazers won a thrilling 50-49 decision in overtime back in 2010.

Head coach Garrick McGee emphasized the importance in the development process for the team not just for the week ahead, but for the rest of the season.

“Our approach is that we want to develop one day at a time, and become a better individual first, better unit second, better football team, better football program,” McGee said.  “We do everything we can possibly do on a daily basis to move closer toward that, and that’s not going to change.”

McGee also noted that he has seen improvement by his team in practice, which leads to more success on the field.

“Practice wise we’ve made a lot of strides, but this is about winning games,” McGee said.  “This is about putting together good practices that give you the opportunity to have a good game, but ultimately you have to perform well on game day to win.”

Saturday’s game will be televised on CSS with Bernie Guenther (pxp), Chuck Oliver (analyst) and Rachel Baribeau (sidelines) on the call.

The contest will also air locally on the Blazer IMG Sports Network on WUHT-FM 107.7. The voice of the Blazers, David Crane, will call the game action with John Whitcomb providing analysis and Sam Miller reporting from the sidelines.
