Hunter Mullins leads C-USA punters in average this season.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- UAB junior Hunter Mullins, who leads Conference USA in punting average, was named Friday as one of the candidates for the 2013 Ray Guy Award, presented annually to the nation's top collegiate punter.
The Augusta Sports Council named Mullins, who was tabbed to the Watch List for the Ray Guy Award during the summer, as one of 85 official candidates nationally for the 2013 award.
Mullins, in his second season as UAB's starting punter, averages 43.1 yards per kick and leads all C-USA punters. He has six punts in the first half of the 2013 season inside the 20-yard line and five of 50 yards or more.
In his first season as UAB's regular punter in 2012, Mullins averaged a Blazer season-record 44.8 yards per kick. He had 14 punts inside the 20-yard line and 12 that were called on fair catches. Mullins had 12 punts during the season of 50 or more.
The list will be narrowed to 10 semifinalists to be announced on November 8. Following the semifinalists announcement, a national body of Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) sports information directors, coaches, media representatives and previous Ray Guy Award winners will vote for the top three finalists, who will be identified on November 25. The voting body will then cast ballots to select the winner.
The presentation of the Ray Guy Award will be featured on The Home Depot College Football Awards live on Thursday, December 12 at 7:30 pm ET on ESPN. The show, hosted by ESPN's Chris Fowler, Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit and Desmond Howard will feature live presentation of nine player awards, along with the recipients of Disney's Spirit Award, The Home Depot Coach of the Year Award, the NCFAA (National College Football Awards Association) Contributions to College Football Award, and student-athletes selected to the Walter Camp All-America Team.
