BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- UAB freshman kicker Ty Long was named the Conference USA Special Teams Player-of-the-Week Monday after his outstanding performance in last Thursday's 26-24 Blazer victory over UCF.
Long, a 6-2, 180-pound product of Roswell, Ga., was successful on both of his field goal attempts in the game and booted the game-winning 40-yarder with only :21 remaining on the clock. Long's other field goal in the game closed out the first half when he connected from 46 yards out.
Long, who has now made 10-of-12 field goals as a true freshman this season, extended his streak to five consecutive made three-pointers. Long is now 4-of-5 this season on field goal attempts from 40-49 yards.
Long is the third UAB player this season to receive a C-USA Player-of-the-Week honor. Nick Adams was named the league's special teams player-of-the-week following the Sept. 17 Tulane game while safety Jamie Bender picked up the defensive player-of-the-week award a week later for his performance in the Sept. 24 contest at East Carolina.
UAB will be back in action Saturday when the Blazers travel to Huntington, W.Va. to take on the Marshall Thundering Herd. Kickoff is set for noon ET with the game to be televised regionally on CSS.
