BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB football team continued preparations for Saturday's contest against visiting East Carolina (4-3, 3-1 C-USA) with a two-hour practice session in full pads on Wednesday afternoon at the on-campus practice fields.

UAB (1-5, 0-2 C-USA) will be looking to claim its first Conference USA victory of the 2012 campaign, following a 39-17 loss at Houston last weekend.

The Pirates are coming off a 49-7 win over Memphis last weekend and were led on offense by quarterback Shane Carden, who passed for 308 yards and a career-high five touchdowns. Defensively, East Carolina was led by linebackers Gabriel Woullard and Daniel Drake, who each recorded 10 total tackles against the Tigers.

"The biggest challenge is just defending a really talented spread offense that has two of the top weapons in the conference," head coach Garrick McGee said. "(Quarterback Shane Carden) is a very talented player. He's a dual threat quarterback, and he has weapons. They run a spread offense, fast breaking, just like most of the teams in the conference."

The game will air on Fox College Sports, with Steve Physioc calling the play-by-play, Ben Leber as analyst and Lesley McCaslin on the call from the sidelines.

The contest will also air locally on the Blazer IMG Sports Network on WUHT-FM 107.7. The voice of the Blazers, David Crane will call the game action with John Whitcomb providing analysis and Sam Miller reporting from the sidelines.
