BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- UAB Football will play series against Pittsburgh, Baylor, and UNLV over the next six seasons, Blazer head Coach Watson Brown announced today.
UAB will play at Pittsburgh in 2001, with the Panthers coming to Birmingham in 2002. The Blazers will travel to Baylor in 2003 and the Bears will return the game in 2004, and the UNLV series begins with a game in Las Vegas in 2005 and returns to Birmingham in 2006.
Brown also confirmed meetings with Florida State in Tallahassee in 2001 and 2004, a single game at Florida in 2002, a single game at South Carolina in 2003, and a single game at Tennessee in 2005.
"This is really good for our program," said Brown.
"I think we've got three really good home-and-home series for us, to go with our conference play. We feel like we need to play at least one really strong non-conference opponent every year on the road, for prestige purposes -- and a lot of other reasons. I think these are all good ones, and I think it's good that we have been able to stay in the south for the most part, trying to play SEC teams or teams from other highly-ranked conferences. This helps make our schedule nearly complete through 2006, and we feel very good about it."
