BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The focus has been on FIU this week as the UAB football team continues preparations for Saturday's game in Miami, Fla.
Following Wednesday's two-hour workout at the UAB practice facility, Blazers' assistant head coach/defensive coordinator Jimmy Williams spoke with reporters.
"The focus for us is preparing to play our best football," Williams said. "That means studying, knowing our opponent and getting ourselves mentally ready to go."
FIU enters Saturday's game after a strong performance in a win against Southern Miss last week. The Panthers registered season highs in scoring (24), rushing yards (160), passing yards (181), total offensive yards (341), first downs (20) and time of possession (35:58).
Freshman running back Silas Spearman III carried an FIU offense with his 29 carries for 136 yards and two touchdowns in the win.
"First of all, they have a great coaching staff," Williams said. "I really have a tremendous respect for them because they have a really young group. They have two quarterbacks that are very good and coached very well. They have some tremendous running backs. They are coming off a win, it's a homecoming game and we expect their best."
Kickoff for Saturday's game, which will be broadcast on CSS, is slated for 6:30 p.m. CT at Alfonso Field at FIU Stadium.
