BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- T.J. Ballou, a senior cornerback on the Blazer football team, has been named the UAB Student-Athlete of the Week.
Ballou scored his first touchdown as a Blazer last week at Troy, returning a third-quarter interception 52 yards for a touchdown. It was the fourth interception at UAB for Ballou, who also recovered a Trojan fumble on the next drive.
A senior from Russell, Miss., Ballou joined the Blazers last season from East Mississippi Community College and started 11 games in the UAB secondary.
In the classroom, Ballou maintains a 3.03 GPA as a communication management major and was named to the 2010-11 Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll in his first year at UAB. He graduated 10th in his class at Northeast Lauderdale High School in Meridian, Miss.
The UAB football team returns to action Saturday when it hosts Mississippi State for an 11 a.m. CT kickoff at Legion Field. The game will be televised by SportSouth.
