Junior wide receiver Jamarcus Nelson and the Blazers take on Northwestern State Saturday.
Sept. 19, 2013
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB football team practiced for the final time before its first home game of the 2013 season on Thursday afternoon. UAB takes on Northwestern (La.) State in its home opener on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Legion Field.
Earlier in the week, head coach Garrick McGee spoke about the excitement of the team’s first home game of 2013.
“I know for a fact, our team is looking forward to playing in our home stadium in front of the Birmingham citizens, our student body, faculty, and staff,” said McGee. “I know Dr. (Ray) Watts has done a really good job of pushing our faculty, staff and student body into the stadium this weekend to see our team play.”
Saturday’s game marks the second-latest home opener the Blazers have played in the 23-year history of the program. The only season the squad played its first game later than this was in 1999 when the team hosted Houston on Sept. 25.
“Our team is roaring,” added McGee. “First, to get victory No. 1. Second, to go out and play in our home stadium in front of our fans here in Birmingham.”
Ticket information for Saturday afternoon’s game can be found by calling the UAB Athletic Ticket Office at (205) 975-8221.
