BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The UAB football team spent Thursday’s practice in shells and shorts putting together the final touches on the Blazers’ game plan for No. 8 South Carolina. Kickoff on Saturday is set for 7 p.m. ET at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, S.C.
UAB (0-1) will play its first road game under head coach Garrick McGee, while South Carolina (2-0) claimed a 48-10 victory last Saturday against East Carolina on its home field.
Saturday's showdown will be televised on Fox Sports Net with Bob Rathbun (pxp), Tim Couch (analyst) and Elizabeth Moreau (sidelines) on the call.
The contest will also air locally on the Blazer IMG Sports Network on WUHT-FM 107.7. David Crane will call the action, John Whitcomb will provide analysis for the Blazers and Sam Miller will be on the sidelines.
After practice, McGee noted that he was pleased with the team’s focus and ability to zone in on the game plan for this Saturday’s contest vs. the Gamecocks.
“It was a typical Thursday practice where we got our finer details cleaned up on what we are doing,” McGee said. “It’s more of a mental day and really not a physical day. I think our kids did a good job of really concentrating and I think they will be ready to go.”
After the season opener against Troy, the Blazers’ schedule featured a bye in week two, giving a 14-day gap between the first and second game for the UAB football squad. During that nearly two-week stretch, McGee has been impressed by the team’s ability to focus on their individual assignments.
“They’ve done a good job and they understand what is at stake,” McGee said. “They understand the opposition we are up against and I think they are prepared to really go in and concentrate and believe in themselves and that’s the only way you win any kind of game.”
