BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB football team continued preparations on Tuesday for its upcoming game against the eighth-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks with a two-hour session at the campus practice fields.
The Blazers and Gamecocks will kick off at 6 p.m. CT in Columbia, S.C., at Williams-Brice Stadium. The game will be televised on Fox Sports Net with Bob Rathbun (pxp), Tim Couch (analyst) and Elizabeth Moreau (sidelines) on the call.
This will be just the third meeting between the two programs, with the Gamecocks coming away with the victory in the previous two matchups in 2003 (42-10) and 2008 (26-13).
With South Carolina possessing one of the more dominant defensive lines in the nation, led by defensive ends sophomore Jadeveon Clowney and senior Devin Taylor. UAB offensive coordinator Jeff Brohm stressed the importance of executing in the trenches.
"Those two guys are as good looking as you're going to get," Brohm said. "They're both outstanding players. They've got experience and they're guys we've got to take into account. We've got to make sure we get them blocked and attack their weaknesses if there are any."
UAB has had two weeks to prepare for the Gamecock's defense and offensive line coach John Peterson believes it can play to the Blazers' advantage.
"We focused on some basic fundamentals," Peterson said. "That's the unique thing of having that [bye] week so early. You go back to grinding on the details that are going to allow them to be a good player and execute the schemes."
The contest will also air on radio locally on the Blazer IMG Sports Network on WUHT-FM 107.7. David Crane will call the action and John Whitcomb will provide analysis for the Blazers, while Sam Miller will be on the sidelines.
