BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB football team practiced for 20 just under two hours in periods of rain Tuesday afternoon as it continued to work towards its home opener against Alcorn State at Legion Field on Saturday.
UAB head coach Neil Callaway was less than pleased with the practice conditions Tuesday when he met with the media following the rainy practice session.
"I don't like it," he said of the weather. "It gets slippery and it tears the field up and you always run the risk of pulling something."
UAB is coming off a 34-24 loss at Florida State last Saturday and will look to pick up its first win of the 2007 campaign when it takes on Alcorn State for the first time on Saturday.
The Blazers will be playing for their fourth consecutive home opener victory.
In speaking with the media Tuesday, Callaway reiterated the fact that he was pleased with the improvements his team made from week one to week two, but was adamant that his Blazer squad is not near where its needs to be.
"I still don't think we're practicing the way we need to practice," he said. "We worked on tackling a lot more (today). We still need to better understand the tempo and the work that it takes and I don't know when we'll get to that point."
The Blazers and the Braves will kick off at 6 p.m. CT inside Legion Field Saturday.
Radio coverage of UAB football can be heard on the Blazers ISP Network flagship station WUHT 107.7 FM. The broadcast can also be heard on affiliates WIQR 1410 AM in Montgomery, WTRB 98.3 FM in Talladega, and WACT 1420 AM in Tuscaloosa.
