BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB football team spent two hours on the practice field in helmets on Thursday afternoon, making its final preparation for Saturday’s season opener at Troy.
The Blazers and Trojans are scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m. CT at Troy's Veterans Memorial Stadium. The matchup will be carried on ESPN3.com with Dave Weekley (play-by-play) and Cole Cubelic (analyst) on the call. David Crane (play-by-play), Steve Irvine (analyst) and Sam Miller (sideline reporter) will also broadcast the game on the Blazer IMG Sports Network. The contest will air locally on WUHT-FM 107.7.
Earlier this week, head coach Garrick McGee talked about some of the challenges the Trojans present.
“Whenever you have returning starters at quarterback, in which Troy has two, that creates problems,” said McGee. “One of them is a very good passer and the other one is a dual-athlete. They are going to play him at running back and receiver some. He is a weapon.”
McGee added that the team is eager to get on the field for the rivalry game.
“On opening night, everybody is going to be charged up all over the country,” said McGee. “Going into our second year, we do know that this is a rivalry game.”
