BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB football team took to the practice field for more than two hours Wednesday afternoon as they prepare for Saturday’s season-opener at Troy.
The Blazers and Trojans are scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m. CT at Troy's Veterans Memorial Stadium. The matchup will be carried on ESPN3.com with Dave Weekley (play-by-play) and Cole Cubelic (analyst) on the call. David Crane (play-by-play), Steve Irvine (analyst) and Sam Miller (sideline reporter) will also broadcast the game on the Blazer IMG Sports Network. The contest will air locally on WUHT-FM 107.7.
After Wednesday’s training session, UAB defensive coordinator Reggie Johnson and junior cornerback Jimmy Jean met with the media to discuss how the defense is preparing for the matchup against the Trojans.
Johnson believes that this group has proven that they are ready to come out and compete in Saturday’s showdown with Troy.
“We have some older guys that have competed against these guys and they are familiar with them,” Johnson remarked. “Again, we are going to have to have some young kids that are going to provide depth. These kids have shown over the past 25 practices that they can compete so we look forward to watching them get out there and perform.”
Jean is ready to make his first appearance for the Blazers after transferring from Arkansas Baptist. He believes they will be ready to come out and play.
“I had to sit out last spring so it’s just time for me,” Jean said. “I am just ready to get out there. I’ve got my preparation in, got my plays in. Coach has us in the right spots to make the plays so it’s just all about Saturday.”
