BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Blazers football team enjoyed a sunny Thursday morning, practicing for over two hours at the UAB Football Practice Facility.

Following practice, assistant coaches Eric Evans and Kevin Peoples spoke to the media for the first time during fall camp. Both coaches are in their first season as members of the UAB coaching staff. Evans and Peoples both were on previous coaching staffs with head coach Garrick McGee.

“I knew Coach McGee from my days at Northwestern when I was a graduate assistant and Coach was the offensive coordinator,” Evans stated. “I had that relationship there. He has been a guy that has been a tremendous influence on my life, not just as a coach, but also as a person. He has been a guy that I have always wanted to work with, work for, again. When he called and offered me the spot there was no doubt in my mind. I couldn’t get down here fast enough.”

Evans currently works with the Blazers’ running backs. Along with being reunited with McGee, he cites the direction of the program as one of the reasons he joined the Green and Gold coaching staff.

“It is nice to be down here and coaching these guys,” Evans commented. “It’s a program on the rise. It’s about to explode and I am excited to be a part of it.”

Peoples works with the defensive line and also serves as the UAB recruiting coordinator. He shared the same views as Evans and could not pass up the opportunity to coach with McGee again.

“I had an opportunity to coach with Coach McGee,” Peoples said. “I had always respected him when we were at Arkansas together. I knew what he could do here and the opportunity to be in Birmingham. I love Birmingham. It was a combination of the city, school, and obviously Coach McGee. That was a big reason.”

The Blazers will be back on the practice field Friday morning.
