As a Butkus Award Watch List member, Henderson is listed among the nation's top linebackers.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- UAB senior Joe Henderson has been named to the Preseason Watch List of the prestigious Butkus Award, given annually since 1985 to the top linebacker in college football.
Henderson, a native of Birmingham and two-year starter for the Blazers, has been named All-Conference USA each of the past two seasons. He has also been tabbed to the preseason first-team unit for the 2008 season by the league's head coaches.
Henderson registered 109 tackles last season, including a team-high 9.5 tackles for loss and five sacks. He recorded a career-best 15 tackles against Southern Mississippi. As a sophomore in 2006, Henderson had 63 tackles with 8.5 tackles for loss.
Henderson was one of three C-USA players named to the '08 Butkus Award Watch List as Southern Miss' Gerald McRath and Will Bonilla of SMU were also listed among the preseason honorees.
The Butkus Award is named in honor of Pro Football Hall of Fame linebacker Dick Butkus. The Butkus Award will be presented January 13, 2009, at the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame in Chicago.
An independent Butkus Award Selection Committee, comprised of 51 experts including professional, college and high school scouts, and prominent sports journalists, will conduct the selection process.
