BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The UAB football team practiced in full pads on Monday morning for roughly two hours to start the Blazers' third full week of fall camp.
Following practice, head coach Garrick McGee spoke to the media and noted multiple positive team individual performances during the Green and Gold’s intrasquad scrimmage this past Saturday night.
"I was really pleased with how our offense ran the football. I think when you are establishing the foundation of a program it starts with the defense and the running game,” McGee said.
In Saturday’s scrimmage, UAB featured four different running backs in Bashr Coles, Greg Franklin, Dontavius Jackson and Darrin Reaves. Each back rushed for over 50 yards with Jackson and Reeves finding the endzone twice each. In total, the four-headed backfield rushed for 238 yards on 48 carries.
“I think Marvin (Burdette) is playing the best I've seen him. He's in great shape and playing fast,” McGee said.
The Blazers are back on the practice fields on Tuesday, with workouts scheduled to start at 9 a.m.
UAB will open the season by hosting the Troy Trojans at Legion Field on Saturday, Sept. 1. Game time is slated for 11 a.m. CT.
