BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB football team went through its fourth day of preseason practice Thursday, again donning shells for the second day in a row.
The Blazers will make the transition to full pads for Friday morning's workout.
Head coach Bill Clarksaid it took awhile Thursday before the team moved to the pace he wanted. He also said the Blazers continue to work on their tackling skills.
"Yesterday, I think we were excited (to put on pads), but today, I thought we came out a little slower than I would have liked," Clark said. "But we picked it up. I think our defense has to understand what locking up means. There's a way we practice, a way we protect each yet still be physical and have contact. I think they're starting to understand that.
On the offensive side, Clark has been generally pleased through the first four days. One of the positives thus far has been the Blazers' ability to protect the football.
"I think we're doing a lot of good things offensively. Obviously, this is a time that you're putting in a lot of things. You're trying new people, you're changing the depth chart. The biggest thing is we're not turning the ball over, not putting it on the ground and that's where it starts."
