BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The first practice of fall camp is in the books for the UAB Blazers and head coach Garrick McGee was pleased with what he saw on the first day Tuesday.
The workout, which was moved to Legion Field due to an early afternoon rain in the Birmingham area, lasted nearly two-and-a-half hours. After shifting to the turf at Legion Field, the weather cooperated and the Blazers were able to get in a productive first day of work.
"It really went well," McGee said. "We were really fortunate to get over to Legion. We had a really good day. We have a very athletic, fast football team. I think it's a tribute to them being in our program for a year, so their bodies have been trained for a whole year now. And a lot of these guys are a lot stronger, a lot more flexible, a lot faster."
McGee spoke again to the familiarity being evident for the Blazers as the players prepare for his second season at the helm of the UAB program.
"It makes everything more efficient because they know my expectations," he said. "I think at this point everybody in our program knows what I want and the way I want to run things."
The Blazers will return to the practice field Wednesday afternoon.
