BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- In just its third day of Fall Camp, the UAB football team took another step toward the Aug. 30 season-opener against Troy as the Blazers added shoulder pads to their Wednesday morning workout at the UAB Practice Fields.
It marked the first time since UAB began practice on Monday that the Blazers have gone to shells. According to head coach Bill Clark, it was a welcome change.
"This is how we want to practice, with the pads on and creating contact," Clark said. "I think we have taken big steps since the spring, which we knew we had to do. This was not something that was unexpected that we should be a lot better. I think we have a long way to go, just like probably everybody on day three of camp. It's a good start with no injuries, which is always a good thing."
UAB practiced over two hours on Wednesday as the squad gets set for its fourth day at camp on Thursday. When asked about who has made improvements so far in practice, Clark was slow to single anyone out, but said the team is still competing to get better.
"I think some guys are showing improvements, but it is one of those things where I might tell you one guy who has improved today and tell you someone else tomorrow," Clark said. "All I know is our guys are working their tails off competing and still pulling for each other to succeed."
