UAB's Fair Signs Free Agent Deal With Cleveland

UAB senior running back Carl Fair signed a free agent contract with the Cleveland Browns on Apr. 26, and was scheduled to report to the team's mini camp on May 4.??

The Starkville, Miss., native played two seasons at UAB (1999-2000) and had to overcome numerous injuries, including a broken leg suffered midway through the 1999 season and a severely sprained ankle suffered in the 2000 season-opener.? Despite his injury problems, Fair played in 16 games as a Blazer, rushing for 616 yards on 130 carries (4.7 yards per carry career average), with three touchdowns.??

In 2000, Fair rushed for 211 yards on 55 carries, but was never really himself after spraining his ankle early in the game vs. Chattanooga on Sep. 7.? He did return to appear in 10 of the team's 11 games, with his most productive outing coming in the season finale at Army (Nov. 18), when he rushed for 46 yards on 10 carries.??
