SCRIMMAGE TO HIGHLIGHT FESTIVITIES: A public scrimmage by the UAB Football team will be the centerpiece of "Blazer Day 2001" events Saturday, Apr. 21.?? The football scrimmage will begin at 2:00 pm at West Campus Field (University Boulevard at 11th Street South, home of the UAB Soccer teams), and will be followed by a baseball game between UAB and Memphis at 3:00 pm across the street at Young Memorial Field.?

BROWN SETS FORMAT:? Blazer coach Watson Brown gave details about the format for Saturday's scrimmage following Thursday's practice.? The team will not be divided into two halves, as is the case in more traditional intrasquad games. The offensive units (green) will go against the defensive units (white) in various combinations, with a few added twists.

"Saturday's scrimmage will be similar to the two we've already had this spring," said Brown Thursday.

"It will be a little bit shorter than the first two.? We will add some live kicking, punts, field goals, extra points, which we haven't done as part of the first two scrimmages. We will also be scoring touchdowns, which we haven't really done in the earlier scrimmages. We hope to get a look at a lot of players in a short period of time, so some of the veterans may not play as long as they might like, but we think it will be a lot of fun for our fans to see."
