FRIDAY THE 13TH: The UAB Football team had a spirited full-pads workout Friday afternoon, as the team concluded its second full week of spring practice.? There was intensity evident all over the practice field, but especially in the offensive drills and on the offensive side of the team segments.

"The offense stepped it up today," said head coach Watson Brown, who had chastised the offensive unit for sluggish play on Thursday.?

"They responded to the challenge.? You can't afford to have an `off' day very often, and definitely not when it comes to Saturday (game day).? You have to be able to bounce back."

SCRIMMAGE SET FOR MONDAY:? UAB will hold its second full scrimmage of the spring Monday, Apr. 16, beginning at approximately 3:20 pm.?? The format will once again include five-play series, with no hits on the quarterback.??

QB JOHNSON TO SIT OUT:? Redshirt sophomore quarterback Matt Johnson will not see action for the remainder of the spring after suffering a shoulder injury while throwing in practice earlier this week.? Although an MRI was negative, Johnson has experienced recurring pain and swelling in the shoulder and will undergo further diagnostic tests.?? In the meantime, redshirt freshman quarterback B.J. King has been taking snaps with the third offensive unit.?
