Football Practice Finally Resumes

April 5, 2001

BACK ON THE FIELD: The UAB Blazers returned to the practice field Thursday, following two days off because of rainy weather. The Blazers worked out in full pads for just over two hours, working hard to try and catch up after missing scheduled workouts on Tuesday and Wednesday.

"At least we're out here," said UAB Head Coach Watson Brown following Thursday's workout.

"It's hard to carry over anything when you practice one day and then are off two, but it's good to get back at it. We have a lot of work to do to make up for lost time."

DEFENSE SHINES: Brown had praise for his defensive unit following Thursday's workout.

"I was pleased with the way they came out and attacked the offense, especially along the front line. Now it's up to the offense to come back and respond to the challenge tomorrow."

SCRIMMAGE MOVED TO MONDAY: The Blazers' first scrimmage of the spring, originally scheduled for Friday morning (Apr. 5), will now be held Monday afternoon (Apr. 9) during the regular practice period (beginning at 3:00 pm). Rainouts on Tuesday and Wednesday, as well as last Thursday (Mar. 29) put the team behind in its work schedule, and the decision was made to make Friday's workout a regular practice (starting at 11:30 am).

INJURIES: The Blazers emerged from the first two full-pad workouts in reasonably good shape, with no major injury problems. Offensive lineman Eddie LaFavour wore a yellow jersey in Thursday's practice after injuring his back slightly on Monday, but is expected to be back at full speed very shortly. Receiver T.J. Simmons will continue to work out on his own as he works with the training staff to rehabilitate following off season knee surgery.

NEXT PRACTICE: Friday (Apr. 6) at 11:30 am.
