BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- For the first time since he was named UAB’s head football coach on Jan. 22, Blazers’ head man Bill Clark was able to watch his team practice in full pads during Saturday’s two-hour workout at the UAB practice fields.

Still in their first week of spring preparations, the Blazers have already made improvements according to Clark, whose team practiced for the third time in four days.

“It was good to get the pads on and to see these guys get out here,” Clark said. “I saw a lot of good things today. Obviously, going three out of four days, it was tough on them, but I saw a lot of good things. We have a lot of work to do, but I am pleased with the progress so far.”

Clark and the Blazers also got to work out in front of a nice crowd as a group of high school athletes participated in UAB’s junior day.

“It was a huge day for our program,” Clark added. “It is really one of those surprises you want when you walk into a room and you see over 300 players and their parents in there. They get to see our campus and what we are trying to do, and it was exciting.”

UAB will continue its spring preparations until Friday, April 18, when the Blazers will hold their annual spring game at West Campus Field.
