Long's Late Field Goal Lifts UAB To 27-24 Victory

MIAMI, Fla. ---- Junior kicker Ty Longbooted a 28-yard field goal with 10 seconds remaining to give the UAB football team a 27-24 victory against FIU on Saturday night at FIU Stadium.

FIU (1-5, 1-1 Conference USA) tied the game at 24-24 with 2:41 left in regulation. The Blazers (2-4, 1-1 Conference USA) used a 10-play, 70-yard drive to set up Long, retake the lead and secure its first conference win of the 2013 season.

Long accounted for all of UAB's points in the second half. He also connected on a 48-yard field goal with 1:10 remaining in the third quarter for the only points of the period for either team.

Freshman running back Jordan Howardrushed for a career-best 159 yards on 20 carries to pace UAB. Howard ran for 40 yards on the Blazers' final drive, helping to set up Long's game-winning field goal.

Junior running back Darrin Reaveshad two first-half touchdown runs, the 19th and 20th rushing scores of his career.

Quarterback Austin Brown hit 19-of-30 passes for 188 yards and one touchdown, a 7-yard pass to tight end Kennard Backmanearly in the third quarter.

After allowing 287 offensive yards to FIU in the first half, the Blazer defense yielded only 109 after intermission.

UAB will be back in action Saturday, Oct. 26 when it takes on UTSA in San Antonio.
