Dan Burks ran for two scores on Saturday to help UAB to a 45-26 win over Rice.

Hackney completed 24 of 33 passes as UAB rolled up 506 yards total offense.
UAB (3-1, 1-0 Conference USA) built a 35-16 halftime lead.
Rice (0-3, 0-1) moved the ball consistently with its option attack, grinding out 267 yards rushing. But the Owls finished with four turnovers and could not come closer than 16 points in the second half.
A 37-yard field goal by Rice's Brennan Landry cut UAB's lead to 35-19 with 5:18 left in the third quarter. UAB responded with a 14-play, 93-yard drive and ended with a 7-yard TD run by Burks.
That gave UAB a 42-19 lead and the Blazers added a 34 yard field goal Parker Mullins with 6:40 left to play.
Rice tacked on a late score when Chase Clement hit Jarett Dillard with a 13-yard TD pass. Dillard had five catches for 65 yards.
Reggie Lindsey caught five passes for 133 yards and had a 69-yard scoring catch for UAB.
Joel Armstrong led Rice with 93 yards on 16 carries and scored on a 19-yard run.
Burks led UAB on the ground with 78 yards on 12 carries.
