After seeing limited duty in 2003, and slightly more in 2004, Smith moved into starting "Mike" linebacker position last fall ... has been stellar performer on UAB special teams throughout career ... listed again as No. 1 "Mike" linebacker coming out of spring practice.

2005: Played in 10 games for the Blazers and was starter in eight contests ... finished season as team's No. 3 tackler with 60 stops, including 29 solo hits ... recorded a pair of tackles for loss (vs. Troy and UTEP) and also had one sack (vs. Troy) ... registered double-digit tackles in two games (vs. UCF and UTEP) ... had a career-high 11 tackles in road victory at UTEP ... in a three-game, late-season span vs. Memphis, UCF and UTEP, he recorded 30 tackles ... also had seven stops vs. Marshall and six against Southern Miss.

2004: Saw action in all 12 games and made nine tackles while playing special teams and providing depth at the linebacker position ... made two fumble recoveries.

2003: Played in 10 games during season, all in backup role ... recorded six total tackles (three solo and three assisted) ... had a career-best two tackles against Georgia in October game.
