Ervin Lewis was named to Neil Callaway's staff at UAB in January, 2007 when he assumed the post of Director of Football Operations.
Lewis joined the Blazers' staff after working with Callaway as part of the athletics staff at Georgia. Lewis had served as athletic academic advisor for the Bulldogs since March of 2003.
Lewis also has coaching experience on his resume. He was the head football coach at Jefferson County (Fla.) High School from 2001-02 and was an assistant coach at the school for two years prior to that period.
He got his first taste in coaching in 1996 as a student assistant coach at his alma mater, Auburn.
"Ervin was on our staff at Georgia," said Callaway, "and did an outstanding job as one of our academic advisors. Ervin is a great communicator with people and an extremely hard worker. We're excited to have him as a member of our staff."
Lewis, a native of Monticello, Fla., was a player at Auburn and participated in the 1995 Outback Bowl before an injury cut short his playing career. Lewis had begun his collegiate career at Jones (Miss.) Junior College and played there in 1993-94.
Lewis earned his B.S. degree in health education at Auburn in 1997 and went on to earn his Masters in Higher Education Administration there in 1999.
