Enters fall practice as the Blazers' No. 1 quarterback ... UAB has gone 6-1 in games he has started over the past three years, including wins over 17th-ranked East Carolina (in 1999) and LSU (in 2000 at Baton Rouge) ... makes good decisions on the field and has excellent running abilities ... his style of play fits the Blazers offense perfectly ... earned three letters.

2001: Appeared in eight games, and became the starter in midseason when Jeff Aaron was injured vs. Cincinnati (Oct. 13) ... started the final five games of the season and led UAB to a 4-1 record during that stretch (including four straight wins) ... rushed for 445 yards on 101 carries with five touchdowns for the season .... now 6-1 for his UAB career as the Blazers' starting quarterback (dating back to the 1999 season) .... led UAB to a 43-21 victory at Houston on Nov. 17 ... Cox rushed for 133 yards and two touchdowns and also passed for 128 yards and a score vs. the Cougars. ? in UAB?s 38-17 win over TCU at Legion Field (Nov. 10), Cox set career highs with 223 passing yards and two touchdown passes .... made his first start of the 2001 season vs. Tulane (Oct. 20) and led the Blazers to a 34-27 Homecoming victory .... in the process, he set new UAB single-game marks for quarterback rushing yards (177) and attempts (26), and ran for two touchdowns, including a 45-yard scamper on an option play in the first quarter (Cox also scored two rushing TDs in the 1999 win over East Carolina) .... against Memphis (Oct. 27), Cox rushed for what turned out to be the game-winning touchdown, a two-yarder in the third quarter ... team's second leading rusher with 445 total yards and 55.6 yards per game ... against C-USA opponents, finished the season ranked seventh in rushing (68.7 yards per game) and ninth in both passing (87.2 yards per game) and total offense (155.8 yards per game).

2000: Appeared in four games, starting at LSU (Sept. 23) ... completed two passes for 43 yards vs. Louisiana-Lafayette (Sept. 30) ... also scored a touchdown on a five-yard run vs. Louisiana-Lafayette.

1999: With the injury to backup quarterback Lee Jolly at Cincinnati (10/16), Cox moved into the backup spot ...he became the starter when Daniel Dixon was injured in practice (11/3); he did not disappoint in his first collegiate start, throwing for 122 yards (10-20) and a touchdown and running for two touchdowns in leading the Blazers to one of the biggest wins in the program's history, a 36-17 victory over No. 17 East Carolina (11/6) ... with the win, Cox became the fourth quarterback in UAB history to win in his first start (the others are Daniel Dixon, Chris Bradford and Alvin Stokes) ... Cox made his collegiate debut vs. Louisiana-Monroe (10/2), but did not attempt a pass ... he played his first significant time in the Wake Forest game (10/23), completing five of 14 pass attempts with one interception.

1998: Sat out the season as a redshirt.
