Listed as starter at wide receiver for Blazers entering fall practice ... has made rapid progress his two seasons at UAB and has become a solid offensive weapon for the Blazers ... a transfer from Belhaven College, Chavez saw his first action at UAB in 2002 ... after catching only five passes in '02, he improved to 22 receptions during the 2003 season ... had outstanding 2004 spring ... caught seven passes for 224 yards and four touchdowns in a pair of '04 spring scrimmages.

2003: Started three games for UAB during season, including the last two vs. South Florida and Houston ... was team's No. 2 receiver behind Roddy White with 22 receptions ... caught season-high five passes for season-best 84 yards in UAB's narrow loss at nationally-ranked TCU ... caught only touchdown pass of the season against Southern Mississippi, an 8-yarder from QB Darrell Hackney ... had season-long catch of 46 yards against Cincinnati ... in midseason three-game span vs. Cincinnati, TCU and Georgia, he had 12 catches for 207 yards ... also threw one pass during the season, connecting with fellow receiver Lance Rhodes for a 23-yard touchdown in season's final game at Houston.

2002: Was regular member of special teams in initial season with the Blazers ... saw increased duty at wide receiver in backup role down the stretch ... finished the year with five receptions for 121 yards for an outstanding 24.2 yards per catch average ... caught two passes against East Carolina for 56 yards, including 30-yarder, in November victory over the Pirates ... a week later at Louisville, he was on the receiving end of three passes for 65 yards with a season-long grab for 45 yards from QB Darrell Hackney.

HIGH SCHOOL: A three-year letterwinner for Satsuma High School ... Mobile Optimist Player of the Week ... Mobile County honorable mention ... rushed for 500 yards with five touchdowns as a quarterback in his senior year ... also in his senior year, had 200 receiving yards and three touchdowns ... posted 900 receiving yards and eight touchdowns as a junior ... also played basketball.
