A four-year starter, Thomas is one of the top defensive players in C-USA and the nation...Thomas holds the UAB career record with 35 sacks -- that's also the C-USA career mark ...a very strong candidate for postseason honors and is projected as a possible first-round NFL Draft pick in 2002.

2001: Earned First Team All-Conference USA honors...had 14 sacks in 11 games this season (that ranked him among the top five in the nation for most of the season)...10 of Thomas' 14 sacks in 2001 came vs. C-USA teams, including a season-high three vs. Southern Miss (Sep. 29)...also had 10 quarterback "hurries"...had 46 total tackles with 27 solos and 21 tackles for loss this season...forced a team-high three fumbles in 2001...named a permanent team captain, team MVP, and received the team's Academic Achievement Award following the season.

2000: Earned Second Team All-Conference USA honors...led the team with 10 sacks...had 45 total tackles (21 solos, 24 assists)...also had a team-high 16 tackles for loss...had five pass breakups, a team-high 13 quarterback "hurries," and blocked three kicks...also forced three fumbles...had a sack in four consecutive games with one each vs. Louisville (Oct. 7), Memphis (Oct. 14), Middle Tennessee (Oct. 21) and one and one-half in the win at East Carolina (Oct. 28)...blocked field goals vs. Chattanooga (Sep. 7) and Memphis (Oct. 14) and a punt at Army (Nov. 18).

1999: Played in 10 games, starting eight...had 31 total tackles (14 solos, 17 assists)with 12 tackles for loss, five sacks (tied for the team lead), one pass breakup and one forced fumble...his sack on Houston quarterback Jason McKinley resulted in a safety in the Blazers' first ever C-USA victory (Sep. 25) ....missed some action in mid-season with an ankle injury suffered in the Cincinnati game (Oct. 16)...came back with a strong game vs. East Carolina (Nov. 6), with three tackles for loss and a sack.

1998: Saw action in 10 games and started five...made collegiate debut in season opener at No. 3 Nebraska (Sep. /5)...made first collegiate start three weeks later vs. Kansas (Sep. 26)...also started vs. Southwestern Louisiana (Sep. 3), at East Carolina (Oct. 10), at Louisiana Tech (Oct. 17) and vs. nationally-ranked Virginia Tech (Oct. 24)...posted 26 tackles, including 16 solos...led team with six sacks...also had seven tackles for loss...had one forced fumble and one fumble recovery...had season-high five tackles vs. Kansas and at East Carolina...had two sacks each vs. Southwestern Louisiana, at East Carolina and at No. 2 Tennessee (Nov. 7).

1997: Sat out season for academic reasons.

HIGH SCHOOL: Two-year starter and letterwinner for Coach Alan Pridmore at Minor High School... posted 75 tackles with two interceptions and a fumble recovery as a senior despite playing in just six games... All-Metro as a senior...received team's "Head Hunter" award as a junior and senior...posted 140 tackles with an interception and three fumble recoveries as a junior.

PERSONAL: Born June 7, 1979, in Birmingham, Ala. ...son of Stanley and Marian Thomas...a criminal justice major...named to the UAB Athletic Director's Academic Honor Roll twice during his career.
