BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- Two teams riding impressive win streaks meet on Saturday, when the UAB men's basketball team -- winners of five-straight games - and LSU - winners of three in a row - meet at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
The contest, which is slated to tip at 4 p.m. CST, will air on COX Sports Television and also online on ESPN 3 (subject to blackout). Fans can also catch the action on the Blazer IMG Sports Network on 107.7 FM.
Five Things To Know
-- UAB and LSU are tied in the all-time series, 1-1. The Tigers and Blazers have met on a neutral court on both occasions, with the last meeting coming in 2005, when UAB defeated LSU, 82-68.
The Blazers have won five-straight games on the season -- their longest winning streak since winning seven-straight during the 2009-10 season.
-- UAB averages 48.2 rebounds per game -- the top mark in NCAA Division I men's basketball.
-- UAB has the top perimeter defense in C-USA, holding opponents to just 64-of-249 (25.7 percent) from behind the arc.
-- UAB scored 15 of the final 17 points of the first half in the win Wednesday night against Chattanooga; the Blazers were down 25-20 with 7:48 to go in the first half, but headed to the half ahead, 35-27.
UAB Leads Nation In Rebounding
» According to ESPN.com's statistical rankings, UAB is the No. 1 rebounding team in the nation, averaging 48.2 boards per game. The Blazers have recorded over 50 rebounds four times this season (54 vs. Rutgers, 53 vs. Troy, 62 vs. New Mexico and 52 vs. North Carolina). The 62 against New Mexico represents the fifth time in school history that UAB has had 60-plus rebounds. The school record is 69, which came against South Alabama on Dec. 20, 1994.
» The Blazers have doubled up two opponents this season on the boards. UAB doubled Rutgers' rebound total of 27 as the Blazers had just as many offensive boards (22) as the Scarlet Knights had defensively. Against Troy, UAB outrebounded the Trojans, 53-24, including a 39-16 advantage on the defensive glass.
Blazers Meet Tigers For First Time Since 2005 NCAA Tourney
» UAB and LSU meet for the first time since the first round of the 2005 NCAA Tournament. Former Blazer Marvett McDonald had 21 points and hit five 3-pointers, and the 11th-seeded Blazers used their stingy defense to pull off the upset, knocking off LSU 82-68 in the tournament game.
40-Plus Boards In 10 Games
» UAB has recorded 40 or more rebounds in 10 of its 11 games this season and has hit that mark in five-straight contests. The Blazers have also held the final rebounding edge in every game but the Nov. 24 loss to Temple.
Blazers Riding Five-Game Winning Streak
» UAB is currently on a five-game winning streak dating back to Nov. 27. It is the Blazers' longest winning streak since the 2009-10 season when the Blazers won seven in a row from Jan. 2-Jan.26.
Williams, Alihodzic Have Career Games Vs. Chattanooga
» In his first start of the season on Wednesday against Chattanooga, senior Rob Williams tied his career high with 11 rebounds, including nine in the first half. Meanwhile, fellow senior Fahro Alihodzic set a career high with four blocked shots to go along with his 10 rebounds. Alihodzic has now recorded 10 or more rebounds in four games this season.
Getting Back In The Swing
» UAB's Jordan Swing has scored in double figures in three-straight games this season. Swing scored a season-high 17 points against Chattanooga on Wednesday -- the first time he has led the Blazers in scoring in a single game on the year.
UAB's 28-0 Run Lifts Blazers Past Georgia Southern
» Against Georgia Southern on Sunday, UAB used a 28-0 run to seize control of the game. The Eagles actually led for most of the first half but were held scoreless for over nine minutes as UAB raced ahead.
Frazier Among Junior College Transfer Scoring Leaders
» Chad Frazier, who has scored in double figures in each of UAB's 11 games this season, ranks No. 3 in the country in scoring among junior college transfers who are in their first year with their respective schools. Frazier is averaging 18.8 points per game, which is just behind the 19.5 from Southeast Missouri's Jarekious Bradley and Grambling's A'Torri Shine's 20.2 ppg for most in the nation.
» LSU enters Saturday's game having won three-straight games this season. The 7-2 Tigers are led by four players who score in double figures, including a team-high 14.8 points per contest from Johnny O'Bryant III.
» Head coach Johnny Jones, who is in his second season at LSU, has guided the Tigers to wins against Butler and Texas Tech, among other victories, this season.
