According to’s statistical rankings, the Blazers are ranked No. 1 in the country in rebounding with an average of 48.6 boards per contest.

UAB has the top perimeter defense in C-USA, holding opponents to just 52-of-198 (26.3 percent) from behind the arc.

UAB picked up a win over a ranked opponent for the first time since 2009 with the 63-59 victory vs. then No. 16 North Carolina on Dec. 1.

UAB Notes

UAB Leads Nation In Rebounding
» According to’s statistical rankings, UAB is the No. 1 rebounding team in the nation, averaging 48.6 boards per game. The Blazers have recorded over 50 rebounds in four of nine games this season (54 vs. Rutgers, 53 vs. Troy, 62 vs. New Mexico and 52 vs. North Carolina). The 62 against New Mexico represents the fifth time in school history that UAB has had 60-plus rebounds. The school record is 69, which came against South Alabama on Dec. 20, 1994.

» The Blazers have doubled up two opponents this season on the boards. UAB doubled Rutgers’ rebound total of 27 as the Blazers had just as many offensive boards (22) as the Scarlet Knights had defensively. Against Troy, UAB outrebounded the Trojans, 53-24, including a 39-16 advantage on the defensive glass.

Washington, Frazier Making Early Impact
» Blazer point guard Chad Frazier and junior forward C.J. Washington have led UAB in scoring in each of the first nine games this season. On average, the two combine for 33 of UAB’s 78.3 points per game, which is 43 percent of the Blazers’ per game scoring average.

Williams In New Role
» UAB redshirt senior guard Rob Williams, who started 31 games last season, has come off the bench to score in double figures in five of UAB’s nine games this season. The energetic guard who has now played in 101 consecutive games in his career,  also averages 6.4 rebounds per game.

Rucker Rebounds
» UAB senior forward Rod Rucker’s 20 rebounds against then No. 19 New Mexico on Nov. 21 represented the third highest single-game total in Blazer basketball history. Former Blazer Cameron Moore recorded 24 against George Washington Dec. 28, 2011 to hold the highest mark in Blazer history.

» Rucker added 18 points to his 20 boards vs. New Mexico and 13 points and 10 rebounds vs. Nebraska.

Frazier Garners Two-Straight C-USA Honors
» Blazer junior point guard Chad Frazier was named the C-USA Player of the Week in consecutive weeks (Nov. 25 and Dec. 2) earlier this season. Frazier, who scored 25 points vs. No. 16 North Carolina, is the first player in UAB history to win back-to-back C-USA Player of the Week honors. The Blazers have now won three C-USA Player of the Week honors. UAB has never had more than four C-USA Player of the Week winners in a single season.

UAB Gets 700 In 36 Years
» With UAB’s 87-74 win against Nebraska on Nov. 22, the Blazers picked up their 700th win in program history -- a remarkable stat considering UAB is in just its 36th season of playing collegiate men’s basketball. Overall, the Blazers are averaging 20 wins per season dating back to the inaugural 1978-79 season.

» It is also ironic that the 700th win came against Nebraska -- the same team that UAB played in its first-ever game as a program in 1978.

UAB Sets Free Throw Record
» In its game against Troy on Nov. 14, UAB set a Blazer single-game free throw percentage (min. 10 attempts) record by going 16-of-17 (94.1 percent) from the free-throw line. UAB has gone over 90 percent on a minimum of 10 attempts now seven times in school history. UAB broke the previous single-game record of 93.8 percent vs. USF on Dec. 27, 2006.

Scouting Georgia Southern
